Evolucija našeg Sunca kao mjehurića / Our Sun's Evolution, as a Bubble

'Our Sun's Evolution, as a Bubble' is a temporary site-specific installation/performance/wall drawing. I make a pencil line drawing on a large white wall in the gallery, then attach matches on this drawing so that the heads of the matches follow the lines. Once the installation is complete, I ignite the work and allow the chain reaction to take place. The resulting wall drawing remains in the space until the end of the exhibition.
The imagery in the wall drawing describes an iteration of a simplified evolution of our Sun. This evolution progresses on an arching vector, which alludes to the movement of stellar bodies. The Sun grows larger and, similar to a series of bubbles in compression, nears bursting point by the end of the evolution.
The tens of thousands of matches that compose the work illustrate the formation of stellar dust into life as we know it. Fire is the drawing source, and the sulphorous stink that remains in the space after the ignition serves as tangible evidence of the performance. The symbollic use of the Sun and bubble (fire and water) refers to the basic elements of construction and destruction: As the Sun eventually exhausts its fuel sources and 'pops' like a bubble, the elements released into space by this Supernova explosion rematerialize into other stellar bodies, continuing the creative process.
