Growing up Croatian-American in Kansas City

Dr. Jennifer M. Miskec, Professor of Children's and Young Adult Literature and Fulbright Scholar, will give a talk on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas.

 
Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas, is a Croatian neighborhood in the middle of America, and it is where the family of Jennifer Miskec settled in the early 1900s. Although Jennifer didn't travel to Croatia for the first time until she was 30, weekly visits to Strawberry Hill established for her an accurate (albeit watered-down) context for her travels.
