Galerija Prozori poziva Tobyja Christiana, Caspara Heinemanna, Quinn Latimer, P. Staff i Isabel Waidner na suradnju s knjižnicom i njenim čitateljima putem serije interpolacija.
Pojednostavljeno rečeno, interpolacija je umetanje nečeg drugačijeg u nešto drugo. U matematici ili geologiji, prostor koji stvara interpolacija potencijalno utječe na postojeći niz ili proklamaciju na više načina. Razmjer u kojem je stabilnost ili autoritet onoga što je bilo ranije promijenjen, definiran je prirodom interpoliranog materijala. A to nije shvaćeno kao destrukcija ili sukob, već naprosto stvara novu realnost značenja. Na srodan način, neku primjedbu ubačenu u razgovor također možemo smatrati interpolacijom i ona će zatim zacijelo preusmjeriti narav postojećeg i etabliranog diskursa.
S ovim se projektom želi okupirati prostor imaginacije, od "knjige knjizi", o čemu je 1967. pisao Foucault u tekstu Fantazija knjižnice, gdje kaže: “...imaginarno je rođeno i oblikuje se u intervalu između knjiga kao fenomena knjižnice”. Pozvali smo petero umjetnica i umjetnika da svoje radove izravno umetnu u zbirku Knjižnice S. S. Kranjčevića / Galerije Prozori. Svaki od umjetnika/umjetnica, kod kojih je pisanje, govor i poetika, sastavni dio njihove prakse, dali su umetnuti pojedinačne stranice u određene dijelove najtraženijih naslova. Ovi će radovi na određeno vrijeme biti dostupni u knjižnici i u njoj će neprimjetno ostati dok se čitatelji/čitateljice ne suoče s tom interpolacijom.
Kao difraktivnu gestu, rad umjetnice/ umjetnika i knjigu iz knjižnice, moguće je dijaloški čitati "jedno kroz drugoga" kako bi se stvorio treći prostor značenja za one koji su posudili određenu knjigu. Uvažavajući i poštujući kontekstualne i teorijske razlike između tih predmeta, interpolacija uspostavlja područja jaza, prostora i prekida koji se između njih uspostavlja.
Ovi slučajni susreti s umjetničkim radovima, u smislu obzirnog bavljenja drugačijim disciplinarnim praksama, čitateljicama/čitateljima daju mogućnost da propitaju granice koje dijele struje mišljenja i razmisle kako ih redefinirati u promicanju novih čitanja i novih tipografija značenja. Ove interpolacije kreiraju prostor za radikalno zamišljanje i oblikuju intervale i međuprostore znanja koji su, kao što kaže Foucault, ‘fenomen knjižnice’.
Galerija Prozori je partnerska institucija parrhesiades 2021/2022., višeplatformskog projekta koji je 2019. pokrenuo kustos Lynton Talbot za rad s umjetnicama i umjetnicima za koje je jezik, u pisanom, govornom ili izvedbenom obliku, sastavni dio njihove prakse. parrhesiades zajedno s umjetnicima producira po jedan novi rad, koji istodobno postoji na nekoliko platformi. Distribuirani model izložbe obuhvaća partnersku instituciju, zamišljenu knjigu i prostor na internetu.
Program parresiades financira Arts Council England. Knjiga parrhesiades sv. 2, objavljena je u ljeto 2022. zahvaljujući potpori WHW-a i Fonda kulturne solidarnosti Europske kulturne zaklade te zalaganju Ane Dević.

Toby Christian živi i radi u Londonu. Recentne samostalne izložbe i performansi: Lazy Bones, Casanova, São Paulo (2021), Old School New Body, Celine, Glasgow (2019), Trippy Scroller, PEER, London, (2018), The News, Swimming Pool, Sofia, kustos David Dale, Glasgow (2017) i Railing, Whitechapel Gallery, London (2017); recentne skupne izložbe: I Dialogue, Kinch, Belmacz, London (2021), Preliminares, Espaço C-A-M-A (2021) i Der Bote ist der Tote, Mauve, Beč (2020). Njegove knjige, Commuters (2021), Collar (2017) i Measures (2013) objavila je izdavačka kuća Koenig Books.
Caspar Heinemann, pjesnik, umjetnik i samostalni istraživač pri sveučilištu, živi i radi u Glasgowu. Njegovo područje interesa obuhvaća kritički misticizam, gay biosemiotiku, protupravni komunizam i profesionalno bezboštvo. Pisao je o kanonskim umjetnicima kao što su John Wieners, Diane di Prima, Paul Thek i Derek Jarman. Završio je studij umjetnosti na Goldsmithsu, University of London.
Quinn Latimer, rođeni u Kaliforniji bave se poezijom, kritikom i izdavaštvom. Objavili su knjige, Like a Woman: Essays, Readings, Poems (2017), Sarah Lucas: Describe This Distance (2013), i Rumored Animals (2012) i surađivali sa časopisima, Artforum, Bookforum, The Paris Review, Textezur Kunst, The White Review, napisali su brojne umjetničke monografije i kritičke antologije. Isabel Waidner, bave se pisanjem, žive i rade u Londonu. Objavilo je tri romana: Sterling Karat Gold (2021), We Are Made of Diamond Stuff (2019) i Gaudy Bauble (2017). Waidner je sudjelovalo u organiziranju događanja, Queers Read This, u Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, također se bave produciranjem i vođenjem književnih razgovora, This Isn’t a Dream, na ICA-u koji se uživo emitiraju na Instagramu. Dobilo je nagradu Goldsmiths Prize za 2021.
Hana Noorali & Lynton Talbot surađuju s umjetnicama i umjetnicima na stvaranju tekstova, izložbi i događanja. Hana i Lynton 2021. uredili su, Intertitles: An Anthology at the Intersection of Language and Visual Art, u izdanju prototype press. Galerija Prozori invites Toby Christian, Caspar Heinemann, Quinn Latimer, P.Staff and Isabel Waidner to interact with the library and its readers by way of a series of interpolations.
An interpolation, in simple terms, is the insertion of something of a different nature into something else. In mathematics or geology, the space an interpolation creates can affect an existing sequence or proclamation in various ways. The extent to which the stability or authority of what went before is changed is determined by the nature of the interpolating material. This is not understood as destructive or antagonistic but simply produces a new reality of meaning. Similarly, a remark interjected in a conversation might also be referred to as an interpolation; its effect will likely shift the nature of the existing and established discourse.
This project aims to occupy the space of imagination, from ‘book to book’ that Foucault describes in his 1967 work, Fantasia of The Library, whereby “..the imaginary is born and takes shape in the interval between books as a phenomenon of the library”. We have invited 5 artists to insert works directly into the Prozori Libraries collection. Each artist, for whom writing, speech and poetics forms an essential part of their practice, has contributed loose-leaf pages for inclusion in specific selections of popular lending titles. These works will be fugitively accessioned into the library and remain there discretely until a reader is confronted by this interpolation.
A diffractive gesture, the artist’s work and the library book might be dialogically read “through one another” to engender a third space of meaning for those who borrowed the work. Whilst acknowledging and respecting the contextual and theoretical differences between the items in question, the interpolation becomes an interstice, a space and a disruption that constitutes the field between them.
These incidental encounters with artworks, as respectful engagements with different disciplinary practices, offer the reader a chance to examine the boundaries between strands of thought and consider how they might be re-imagined to foster new readings and new typographies of meaning. These interpolations produce a space of radical imagining and give shape to the intervals and interstices of knowledge that are, according to Foucault the ‘phenomenon of the library’.
Galerija Prozori is the partner institution for parrhesiades 2021/2022 which is a multi-platform project, established in 2019 by curator Lynton Talbot to work with artists for whom language, either written spoken or otherwise performed is an essential part of their practice. Together with the artist, parrhesiades develops a single new work that exists across multiple platforms. A distributed model for an exhibition that incorporates a partner institution, a speculative book and an online space.

Caspar Heinemann is a poet, artist, and academia-adjacent independent researcher based in Glasgow. His research interests include critical mysticism, gay biosemiotics, illegitimate communisms, and professional irreverence. He has previously written on a pantheon including John Wieners, Diane di Prima, Paul Thek, and Derek Jarman. He holds a BA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London.
Quinn Latimer is a California-born poet, critic, and editor. Her books include Like a Woman: Essays, Readings, Poems (2017), Sarah Lucas: Describe This Distance (2013), and Rumored Animals (2012), and her writings appear in Artforum, Bookforum, The Paris Review, Texte zur Kunst, The White Review, and many artist monographs and critical anthologies. Her readings, writings, and visual collaborations have been featured widely, including at Chisenhale Gallery, London; Centre culturel suisse (CCS), Paris; REDCAT, Los Angeles; the Poetry Project, New York; Sharjah Biennial 13; and the 14th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. Latimer was previously editor-in-chief of publications for documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel. She is currently Head of the MA at Institut Kunst Gender Natur, in Basel, where she also organizes a semiannual symposia series on questions of language, gender, social justice, and artistic practice.
P. Staff (lives and works in Los Angeles and London) studied at Goldsmiths College, London (2009), and was part of the Associate Artist Programme at LUX, London (2011). Solo exhibitions have been held at LUMA Arles, France (2021); ICA Shanghai (2020); Serpentine Galleries, London (2019); the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (2019); Dundee Contemporary Arts, Scotland (2019); LUMA Westbau, Zürich (2019); and Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles (2015). Isabel Waidner is a writer based in London. They are the author of three novels: Sterling Karat Gold (2021), We Are Made of Diamond Stuff (2019) and Gaudy Bauble (2017). Waidner is a co-founder of the event series Queers Read This at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, and the programmer and presenter of This Isn’t a Dream, a literary talk show, also hosted by the ICA via Instagram live. They are the winner of the Goldsmiths Prize 2021.
Hana Noorali & Lynton Talbot work collaboratively with artists to produce text, exhibitions and live events. Together they have started non-profit galleries in both London and Berlin and have curated exhibitions in public institutions, project spaces and galleries across London and internationally. In 2019 they were selected to realise an exhibition, The Season of Cartesian Weeping, at the Roberts Institute of Art as part of their annual curator’s series. In 2020 Hana Noorali, along with Tai Shani and curator Anne Duffau, started TRANSMISSIONS, an online platform that shares artists’ work in a classic DIY tv format. TRANSMISSIONS has worked with Legacy Russell, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, CAConrad and others.
