Preschool Story Time: Hush Little Polar Bear
It was fun to go round in circles giggling and competing, and it was a perfect way to turn the last session in a farewell party as well. Exhausted and happy after presenting gifts and taking pictures, young readers listened to Carlee who read and sang along to Hush Little Bear by Jeff Mack. The preschoolers listened to the little bear’s dream-time adventures which span the distance between the oceans, shore, grassy pastures, caves, jungles, mountains, and even up into the starry sky. It came as a surprise to find out at the end of the story that the little bear was a stuffed animal snuggled in the arms of the girl who was the narrator. The gentle poetry which started hushing a little bear gave the child character, the little girl, the speaking rather than the listening part. So the story was sung to the tune of the popular nursery rhyme “Hush Little Baby, Don’t Say a Word”. It was a great way to say goodbye to Carlee, “Then look right beside you,/ and that’s where I’ll be.” The experience of reading, enjoying characters in illustrations and through playing will be remembered and will connect young readers across oceans and mountains, no matter where they are.Web Resources:
